Roads to Welshpool
Welshpool is on the junction between three main roads, A483 A458 and A490
The entrance to the Showground is south of Welshpool and about 100 yards from the junction between the A490 and the lane leading to Powis Castle. On some maps the A490 is shown as the A458
If you are travelling from the North on the A483 or from the East on the A458 (Shrewsbury and the M54) follow the road signs for Newtown and go to third roundabout before turning right back towards Welshpool. Travel about half a mile (passing the garage and the Powis Sawmills on your left and Coed y Dinas / Charlies Stores on your right) until you get to the the next road to your left being the lane leading to Powis Castle (note National Trust brown road sign) The entrance to the Showground is 100 yards on your right.

From the West on the A458 or the North on the A490, you can either come through the town and follow the signs to Newtown which should take you out leaving Morrisons on your left. After half a mile or so you will see the Showground on you right. Take the next turning to your right (note Brown sign to Powis Castle) and the entrance to the Showground is 100 yards from the junction. Train to Welshpool. The station is about a mile from the Showground. If you want to call a taxi see below. If you are walking or want to catch a bus then from the platform go up the ramp and turn right onto the pedestrian bridge over the line. Follow down the curved ramp and make your way to the road leading directly away from the railway (which needs to be behind you). Walk to town centre over canal bridge. Continue till you get to the traffic lights and turn left. The bus stop is about 70 yards along outside the old cinema (art deco building with overhanging porch) and opposite the Angel pub. Or if walking continue along the road to Showground which is about a mile and on your right. If you are walking, you can cut the corner by taking the single track road to your left just before the canal bridge. Follow the canal to the canal lock. Cross the canal here or at the footbridge 50 yards beyond the lock. At the road turn left. Showfield less than a mile on right
